School Counseling

*WELCOME TO ALL PARENTS AND STUDENTS FOR THE 2019-2020 SCHOOL YEAR!*

-I am excited to share that I will be visiting your child’S classroom several times this year!  I will be addressing topics such as problem solving skills, coping strategies, bully prevention, making wise choices, and supporting our district’s ‘CARES’ initiative.

-Teachers, school staff, and parents may refer students to me at any time, should concerns develop in a child’s school or home life.  Students, also, may decide on their own that they would like to talk to me.  I have a mailbox outside of my room that is for all students to use in the event that I am not available.  Students may leave their name in the box and I will be sure to speak to them ASAP.  I do travel between Leaders Heights and Dallastown Elementary Schools.  I am at Leaders Heights Elementary on Mondays and Tuesdays this year.

-The Kids’ Group program is offered in all elementary schools in our district.  Kids’ Group is small-group counseling, which meets once per week, for 10 weeks, during the school day.  Each Kids’ Group session approximately 35 minutes in length.  Groups are no larger than six students from the same grade level.  Topics discussed in group sessions include family changes, dealing with difficult feelings, friendship skills, self-esteem, and anger management.  Groups can be tailored to meet other needs as well.  Topics are addressed through the use of books, games, and art activities.  Kids’ Group sessions are kept confidential, as to create a ‘safe’ environment for students to feel comfortable discussing things that are troubling them.  The small-group setting also offers support and encouragemen to students, as they realize that their peers also experience some of the same difficult feelings and situations.

-Individual counseling sessions are offered to all students as they are needed.  Students may come to me on their own, or be referred by parents, teachers, or other staff members.

-The Big Buddy Program is offered to all elementary students and is a mentoring program with Dallastown High School students.  Limited spots are available.  Please contact me if interested.

-Please feel free at any time this year to contact me should you have concerns for your child or questions regarding the counseling services and supports provided in school.

Thank You!
